Aug 5 – Aug 19
Double Dare challenge which you can find here. That challenge begins on Monday, August 6 and there are more chances to win some great prizes – woot woot!Welcome to another 2-week heARTful stamping challenge! It’s called the Dog Days of Summer and I’m excited to be pairing up with the Double Trouble challenge team. I’d like to invite you to play along with their
When I was collaborating with Double Trouble about working together on this challenge, I told them I’d like to have the theme “dog days of summer” but I’d have to google the background of that saying. Well, they took care of that for me knowing how difficult it has been for me to keep up with blogging during my mom’s open heart surgery (which has been a success but because of her age she’s had some secondary complications but I know she’ll bounce back soon!). Here’s what the Double Trouble team found:
The Dog Days have to do with the ancient study of the stars. The Greeks determined the Dog Star looked to be “following” the constellation, Orion, during a certain period each year. This period coincided with the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. In modern times, these days have been determined to be from about July 30 to September 7.
Well, it’s up to you how to interpret this challenge, I can tell you the gals over at Double Trouble have put some fun spins on it and you’ll see what I have done below!
There are normally weekly Top 3 winners and a random winner from all of the participants receives the monthly prize drawing. August’s winner will receive this Close To My Heart stamp set called Created to Create. If you are visiting this challenge, then you can relate!
My first card was inspired by a watercolored background technique I saw on Close To My Heart’s blog a few weeks ago. On this attempt I went too heavy on the yellow background and didn’t get a lot of color variation. I could have thrown it out but I just went with the hot summer theme and it turned out to be a cheerful card. Since I am just back from a two week visit with my mom, and most likely I’ll be returning later this week, a simple CAS card was all I could manage on my plate! I do love the fun detail stamps that are part of the Central Park scrapbooking stamp set from CTMH – and it is, of course, perfect for this Dog Days of Summer theme!
CTMH supplies:Central Park scrapbooking stamp set, Sunny Thoughts stamp of the month (retired), White Daisy value card/envelope, Black Archival ink, Watercolor paper, Lemon ink, Liquid Glass Other: Splash inks
To me the dog days of summer also mean vacation time – especially since school will be starting later this month! Do you love the woods as much as we do? The beautiful colors found in Close To My Heart’s Fresh Air paper pack will speak to you then! The patterned papers are beautiful and once again I have a hard time picking a favorite side to use. This card is very simple but I just love this saying! It’s from the You Are Here Cricut bundle – the stamp is part of one of the 3 sets that come with the digital cutting files. It’s such a great deal – especially if you pick one up as a hostess half price item (hint hint!).
CTMH supplies: You Are Here Cricut bundle stamp sets, Lovely Leaves stamp set (retired), Fresh paper pack, White Daisy, Nutmeg cardstock, New England Ivy, Juniper and Toffee ink Other: wonky stitched die
